Carbo Nitriding

Employed for components with low thickness and low alloy content carbon and nitrogen are diffused into steel in a gaseous atmosphere, thereby providing desirable properties with shallow case depths.

Carbo Nitriding, a variant of carburizing,is a surface hardening process that enhances the hardness and wear resistance of steel components.
Carbo-Nitriding is a valuable process for enhancing the surface properties of steel components, making them harder, more wear-resistant, and capable of enduring demanding operational environments. It’s widely used in industries where component longevity and reliability are critical.

How It Works

Heating: The component is heated to a temperature typically between 1470֯F to 1650֯F (800°C to 900°C) in a controlled atmosphere, usually containing carbon and nitrogen.
Diffusion: Both carbon and nitrogen diffuse into the surface of the steel, forming hard compounds (such as Nitrides and Carbo-Nitrides) within a thin layer.
Cooling: After the diffusion process, the component is cooled, which can be done in oil, polymer,water depending on the desired properties.
